Why is cold water swimming good for us?

Cold water swimming has become extremely popular in the Uk recently. It is no longer uncommon to see someone in a Dry Robe in the dead of winter on a frosty morning, slipping into what feels like icy cold waters in just a swimming costume or pair of boardies. Lockdowns throughout Great Britain, and the world, have made people explore and research ways to boost wellbeing more than ever. As well as daily exercise and movement cold water swimming has proven to have numerous health benefits and has now become part of many of our daily rituals. Here is why:

  1. boosts immunity

  2. reduces stress and gives you better capability at dealing with anxiety

  3. gives a natural high and releases happy endorphins

  4. burns calories

  5. gentle non stressful movement on the body - any size any shape anyone can take part

  6. increases libido ;)

  7. community - a great way to meet people

  8. creates calm

  9. prevents dementia and other illnesses

  10. sets you up for the day feeling like a boss!

It has become a non-negotiable ritual, a must-do daily practice that I now adore...It is a precious moment to connect which is key to my happiness. I connect with nature and I connect with my fellow swimmers. It is the most joyous way to start my day
